Age: 13
Dimitri is the story's protagonist, a soon-to-be vampire. Strong-willed and yet shy, compliant and yet stubborn, his reactions to situations are often random and unexpected, his personality erratic, generated by his traumatic lifestyle. Dimitri is routinely subjected to intense abuse as a form of "punishment" from his future Master, Lillia. In a world filled with torment, he relishes comfort and puts deep trust in those who provide it, putting him at the mercy of others and thus making him extremely vulnerable. Dimitri has black hair and brown eyes, and often gives off the appearance of being much younger than he is, though he is emotionally mature for his age.

André is a vampire turned in the mid 1800's. Extremely sympathetic by nature, he feels compelled to help Dimitri through his brutal training and aid him in every possible way. André has shoulder-length white hair and the signature crimson eyes of a vampire. He very openly dislikes being a vampire, and was not turned by choice. Like Dimitri, Lillia is his Master, and he was subjected to similar abuse from her at his age, which might explain his deep empathy and desire to protect the younger male. It is argued (by a couple of random people who've read T o x i c XD) that André has an interest in young boys.

Kind, gentle, and caring, Samé is a vampire with advanced healing powers who routinely cares for the wounded in the House. A nurse during the French Revolution, Samé was imprisoned for caring for the wounds of enemy soldiers. He spent a short though traumatic time in prison before a vampire inmated showed special interest in him and helped him escape, under the condition that Samé would allow him to turn him into a vampire and become his Master. Samé is very mild-mannered and sensitive, and in appearance he is tall with wavy chin-length blond hair and a slim, graceful build. Samé's Vampire Master is none other than Cain, son of Adam and Eve and the original Vampire. Also, Samé is as of now the only character who has a known last name. Samé is French, and often peppers his speech with his native language, especially when he is stressed or speaking to Leroux.

Leroux
Age: Unknown
Leroux is enigmatic, dark, and often misunderstood. All that is known for certain about him is that he originally hails from France like Samé and is not a vampire. It is not clear what exactly he is, though he is obviously not human and he shares Samé's healing abilities, as well as many others than he keeps to himself. Leroux's past is shrouded in mystery, and he intends to keep it that way. Attractive, antisocial, and often downright cold with others, Leroux spends most of his time in his own chambers. He is extremely reluctant to allow others to get close to him, and his words and actions often condradict each other, making him an ambiguous (if not downright untrustworthy) character. Leroux is tall and slim with long black hair and eyes that change color at will. You could ask him why, but chances are he wouldn't tell you.

Lillia is one of the five Vampire Elders in the House, and thus in this position receives respect. Though she is one of the Masters in the house and is charged with spawning new Vampires at will, Lillia is extremely brutal. To train new vampires, she puts them through a series of intense "punishments" that sometimes result in death. Lillia is labeled as a masochist, a sadist, and a psychopath. Though many residents of the House believe she is completely heartless, Lillia does have a soft side, though she rarely allows it to show through. She has long violet hair and blue eyes, and is the only known full Vampire without red eyes.

Age: As old as the human race
The son of Adam and Eve, Cain is the first and original Vampire, becoming one as punishment for killing his brother, Abel. Cain is the ultimate Master of the House, and judgement for all important matters comes down to him. Cain has mastered the lifestyle of the Vampire and is able to change his appearance at will, while many Vampires only have the ability to take the form of an animal. His usual appearance of choice consists of short blood-red hair and crimson eyes, though he cannot change the appearance of his crucifix-shaped pupils. Cain can also not morph himself into the appearance of an existing human or Vampire, but as far as it is known no more limitations to his morphing power exist. Cain is far less cruel than Lillia, and though he is known for inflicting extreme punishment when it is justified, he is generally merciful and a caring leader. Cain is often extremely sarcastic and mischeivious, and he has an odd sexual fixation with Samé.

Age: 56, appearance of a 15-year-old
Known for being one of the youngest Vampires in the House (the usual age limit being from 20-40 for new Vampires), Rahia has quite a reputation. She is a shapeshifter, but cannot take the form of animals or humans and is only able to morph parts of her body, never the whole thing at any given time. Her power is an extremely muted version of Cain's, and is a result of her accidental transformation into a Vampire when her blood mixed with Cain's as he drank from her. Rahia is outspoken and opinionated, and very friendly with most of the other Vampires, even attempting to make friends with Leroux, though she is unsuccessful. Rahia naturally has long brown hair and the crimson eyes of a Vampire, though she is fond of sporting odd hair colors (some of her favorites being lime green, purple, and blue).

Age: 20, appearance of a child
Along with Rahia, Star is the House's other underage Vampire. Turned at age 10 by his Vampire lover in a final attempt for them to be together, he was originally an unwelcome member of the House. His Master was long since executed for the relationship, and Star is the only known Vampire in the House without a Master at the present time. He is under the incorrect assumption that he can simply aquire a new Master, a follows Leroux around constantly for the simple reason that he reminds him of his old one. Despite his rather daunting past, Star bears no obvious emotional scars. He is loud, exciteable, and vivacious, and routinely gets on the older Vampires' nerves. His is very small with short, pale blue hair, and his nickname comes from a small, unexplainable scar below his left eye that is in the shape of a perfect star.

Better known as "Tioida" or "Var" for short. Vartioida is a not fully undead... he is a half-Vampire, and his position in the House is that of a Toy. Because half-Vampires are looked down upon, they fill the position of acting as Toys to the full-Vampires (fulfilling sexual favors, showing the ropes to newly turned Vampires, doing general servant work). Vartioida is arguably the ideal Toy; he is very subservient and will do anything asked of him, virtually lacking the will to do anything of his own volition. He is especially obedient when it comes to Cain, who saved him from death by creating the Toy system to appease the less understanding Vampires and making him a part of it. Vartioida is generally quiet and slightly melancholy; he believes he deserves every bit of mistreatment inflicted upon him. He is slightly masochistic, and until seeing the rebellion that Dimitri exhibits, he never thought to question his own less than desirable position. He is tall and underweight, with long strawberry blonde hair and brown eyes (a characteristic of half-Vampires is that their eyes do not change to the customary red). Half-Vampires are also able to venture into daylight, though this benefit is dampened by the fact that while their life span is greatly extended, they are not immortal like full-blooded Vampires.
