| Aoyagi Ritsuka |

| Soubi's second Sacrifice |
Aoyagi Ritsuka is the younger brother of Seimei, Soubi's Sacrifice, and the show's other lead character. Before Seimei
is killed, he orders Soubi to go to Ritsuka and become his Sentouki. Ritsuka is an introverted, depressed 12-year-old boy
suffering greatly from the loss of his brother. When Soubi first meets Ritsuka, he is immediately affectionate, having fallen
in love with him previously, and even kisses him in the park shortly after introducing himself. However, the relationship
between the two is far more complicated than a simple case of pedophila. Soubi loves Ritsuka deeply, and Ritsuka is not sure
what to make of Soubi, but the romantic tension between the two grows as the story progresses, revealing a tense, dark, and
ultimately sweet relationship. When together, both characters, though burdened deeply by their pain, seem genuinely happy.
Ritsuka is nothing like Seimei, which often forces Soubi to make his own decisions, but together the two struggle to find
happiness and love against overwhelming odds.

| Soubi's best friend |
Kaidou Kio is Soubi's fellow college art major and best friend and, as he tells Ritsuka, "probably his only
friend". Kio is easygoing, slightly perverted, and has a fascination with sucking lollipops. He is often tense, and calls
Soubi a hentai, or "pervert", quite regularly because of his relationship with Ritsuka. Kio has a very open and obvious crush
on Soubi, and his repeated romantic advances add one of the several recurring jokes and snippets of humor to an otherwise
dark storyline. Kio cared for Soubi when he was down because of Seimei's death, and he and Soubi share a very close friendship.

| Soubi's unexpected houseguests |
Natsuo and Youji are the first Zero team we meet, though they are the most newly created. Zero are synthetic fighting
teams that lack the ability to feel pain, created by Sagan Nagisa. Youji (the Sacrifice) and Natsuo (the Sentouki) are sent
by Nagisa to defeat Soubi, mostly due to her personal grudge against him. In the end, though they wound Soubi extensively
(even driving a nail through his hand), he uses their bodies' inabilty to contract the capillaries to nearly freeze them to
death, thus defeating them. But surprisingly, Soubi offers them a home at his house, since they can't go back to Nagisa, having
been defeated. They come to live with Soubi for a time, and develop a close friendship with him. Though they can be cold,
they are very lighthearted and fond of teasing Soubi.

| Ritsuka's best friend |
Hawatari Yuiko is a sweet, innocent girl who immediately takes a liking to Ritsuka when he moves to her school. Though
intially Yuiko only meets Soubi because he is close to Ritsuka, she and Soubi eventually form a comfortable, lighthearted
friendship. Their mutual love for Ritsuka gives them more in common than it would seem at first, and the two get along very
well, even to the point where Yuiko calls Soubi to inquire about Ritsuka's absence from school.

Shinonome Hitomi is Ritsuka's sensei. At age 23, she still has her ears, and is shy, sweet, and soft-spoken. She and
Soubi's relationship begins when he blatantly tells her that he's "not into older women", though she is only 3 years his senior.
From there, their interactions become more and more tense. Soubi eventually saves her from Youji and Natsuo, who plan to take
her ears, but then brushes her off coldly. Though eventually the two seem to get along and almost act like friends, their
unresolved sexual tension adds a multidimensional element to the story.
